Lonicera caerulea 'Jörgen'

(Hedge)honeysuckle

Growth: Very hardy and compact. Hight: 1,5 - 2 m, in favorable conditions 2,5 m. Free.standing it gets the same width as hight. The higher measurements are achieved on
nutritious, loamy dirt.

Flowers: Flowering early spring with small cream white flowers that attracts bees. Otherwise the flowering is secondary. The leaves that comes at the same time as the flowers are however strikingly beautiful. The shoots are pretty red during summer and have a vibrant red brown colour in the winter.

Origin: 'Jörgen' has an unknown (karelian-russian?) origin. It was found in 1949, and started to be used for hedges in the beginning of the 1960s. The original hedge is preserved in Närpes.

Use: As free-standing and pruned hedges and for mass planting. Modest and can therefore be used on most type of soils ( the hight becomes lower at dry sand dirts). Suitable plant interval for pruned hedges are 3 plants/meter and for free-standing hedges 2-3 plants/m.

N.B: 'Jörgen' can be pruned any time during the year, but best result is achieved when pruning during winter (October-April). If pruned hard during summer the plant easily becomes bare a few weeks til new leaves start to fill in. Shoots can be pruned early summer though.
